Act II Post :)

SO, Act II has been one for the ages. We are seeing the true mentalities and feelings come out of each character. Nora attempts to convince Torvald not to take the disreputable Krogstad’s position away at the bank.  She knows that if his position is taken away, he will tell Torvald about the whole borrowing money and forging signature situation. She pleads to Torvald, but he does not budge and stands firm. Nora knows she will face retribution if her actions are revealed. Also, Dr. Rank visits and Nora begins to act very flirtatious towards him. She shows him her silk stockings and Rank begins to develop the wrong ideas. Rank confesses his compassion for Nora, and this turns into an awkward situation because I think she did not expect such a response. She mistakenly led him on and he misread the entire situation. Or maybe not. Do you believe there is something more to Nora and Rank’s relationship?

            Krogstad finally decides to leave the letter in Torvald letter box, after he has received his letter of Job-termination. I feel he was left with no other choice and it was the right thing to do. He gave Nora the choice, but she could not woman –up and tell Torvald what had been going on. Honestly, I believe that if she would just let go of the secret that has been eating away at her, she would feel so relieved. She would be at ease with herself and things would become much clearer, but she is so blinded by her hysterics and paranoid feelings that she doesn’t understand that she did the RIGHT thing. But, she ends up trying to stall Torvald by asking him for help with the dance she is performing at the Tarantella. Do you believe Nora will ever come to her senses about just admitting her mistake to Torvald and hoping for the best outcome, whether it hurts or helps her, finally be lifted of that burden? Feedback ???

Act 1 Post :)

So, Act I has been one controversial beginning to this book. We have met many interesting characters, who all seem to have their own dilemma at hand. Nora is an intelligent, strong- willed, independent woman. She is also hard-working and she very much loves her family. But she acts as if she is so immature and “air-headed” around her husband, Torvald. Torvald treats her as a pet almost, and he speaks so frivolously towards her. She is acting very two-faced and it leads me to believe there’s something more to it. Do you believe Nora and Torvald’s relationship is genuine and real? On the other hand, it’s hard to believe it’s not genuine because Nora burrowed money and risked her reputation by forging a signature just to save Torvald’s life.

            On the Other side, we have the character of Krogstad, the manipulative and hypocritical co-worker of Trovald. He is the man, in which Nora burrowed money from and blackmails her because he wants to keep his job and regain his reputation in the society. He threatens to take Nora to court for forging, but the irony is he lost his reputation because of forging signature. It is coincidental how he is willing to let Nora suffer even though he knows the difficulties of being in the same situation. Do you believe Krogstad is going about this in an indiscreet way? Honestly, I like how Krogstad is so clever and manipulative because he is using these negatives in Nora to his personal advantage. I predict Torvald will soon enough find out all of the crazy inner things going on within his job and household and how closely they interrelate. I can kind of see a little of Beneatha in Nora. Nate Louis!  SO this year has been quiet interesting in the Period 5 English. We’ve definitely had some fun and exciting moments and then there were some…… ehhhh not so great moments. We’ve read a couple of pretty astounding short stories and novels and then there were the ones that bored you to death. Though things got rough during the year, especially during research paper time, we always could depend on our teacher, Ms. Santos. It has definitely been a productive year, and I will miss this class when its all said and done.           

Henrik Ibsen was an often misunderstood Norwegian playwright. As a young writer, he was very discontent with everything. He found himself unable to identify with any existing forms of drama, so he set out to create his own. During his lifetime, he experienced many times where he was shifting between his dramatic and philosophic and spiritual forms of mindset. But throughout, his plays are characterized by their rebellious spirit and their unforgiving scrutiny of Ibsen's own faults and virtues. Many of his early plays were wild and epic, focusing on mystical, romantic, and poetic forms of rebellion. I believe the title may relate to the story because it symbolizes the tendency of the characters to play certain roles, just as a doll. I believe it can also relate to the author because the author always tried to mold his way into writing a specific type of literature, where as all along he needed to create his own style and be himself!
